St. Stephen's College is a religious foundation drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It aims at helping its members realise spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values.

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen's is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges.

Biography


Dr. Shamim Ahmed is a Professor in the Department of Urdu & Persian at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. He obtained a Ph.D. in Urdu from University of Delhi and specializes in History of Urdu Literature & Iqbal Studies. He teaches various undergraduate courses in Urdu; from Elementary Urdu to classical and modern Urdu poetry & prose. He also supervises research for obtaining Ph D from University of Delhi. 5 research scholars have awarded Ph D from University of Delhi till date under his supervision. His research interests include Education in Urdu, Iqbal studies with recent work focusing on Poetry of Iqbal. Dr. Shamim Ahmed has published 20 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored 5 book(s)/book chapter(s), and has contributed to funded minor research project from UGC. He is a member of Curriculum Committee of CBSE, Member, Governing Body, Delhi Education Society, Member Crescent Education Society, New Delhi, Manager (Honorary), Crescent School Daryaganj, Member, Committee of Courses, Department of Urdu, Delhi University and Consultant, Language Education (URDU) for Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) SCERT.
