St. Stephen's College is a religious foundation drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It aims at helping its members realise spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values.

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen's is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges.

About the Centre

The Centre for Translation Studies conducts talks, workshops, seminars and other academic activities related to the field of translation studies. The Centre serves not only members of the College community but also scholars, researchers and language enthusiasts from outside the institution.

The Centre encourages reflection on languages as unique expressions of culture while simultaneously highlighting the importance of translation as a bridge between different linguistic and cultural traditions.

Through its programmes, the Centre explores both translation theory and translation practice. Although literary translation remains its principal focus, the Centre adopts an interdisciplinary approach by inviting experts from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.


Academic Activities (2021–2022)

During the academic year 2021–2022, the Centre organized a series of online lectures, discussions and interactive sessions with distinguished scholars and practitioners working in the field of literary translation.

The sessions covered both theoretical perspectives and practical experiences of translation projects, offering participants valuable insights into the art and discipline of translation.
