Centre for Theoretical Physics
St. Stephen's College, Delhi
About the Centre
The Centre for Theoretical Physics at St. Stephen's College, Delhi was established in January 2014 by two distinguished members of the Department of Physics, Dr. Vikram Vyas and Dr. Abhinav Gupta.
The Centre was founded with the vision of promoting academic excellence in theoretical physics while creating opportunities for meaningful collaboration between undergraduate students and faculty members in advanced scientific research.
Objective
One of the significant challenges in undergraduate science education in India has been the artificial separation between teaching and research. This divide has often limited innovation, reduced opportunities for original scientific contributions, and discouraged young scientists from pursuing undergraduate teaching as a profession.
The Centre for Theoretical Physics seeks to address this gap by establishing an academic framework that encourages collaborative research involving both faculty members and undergraduate students. By integrating research with classroom learning, the Centre nurtures scientific curiosity, analytical thinking, and independent research skills among students.
Research Culture
Encouraging undergraduate students to actively participate in theoretical physics research.
Faculty Collaboration
Building strong partnerships between students and faculty through collaborative research.
Vision
The Centre aims to bridge the gap between classroom teaching and scientific research by cultivating an environment where students are inspired to think critically, investigate original ideas, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of theoretical physics.
