St. Stephen's College is a religious foundation drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It aims at helping its members realise spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values.

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen's is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges.

Biography

Dr. Chandra Bhushan Jha is Professor and Head of the Department of Sanskrit at St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He holds a Ph.D. in Sanskrit Grammar from the University of Delhi and specialises in Modern Sanskrit Literature. With over three decades of teaching experience, he has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has served as an ICCR Chair Visiting Professor in Germany and Croatia.

His research interests encompass Modern Sanskrit Literature, Sanskrit Journalism, Sanskrit Grammar, and Classical Sanskrit Literature. He has published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored four books and several book chapters, and contributed to two funded research projects.

Prof. Jha is a long-standing member of the International Association of Sanskrit Studies and the All India Oriental Conference. He has made significant contributions to these academic bodies in various capacities, including serving as Sectional Convenor and Sectional President on multiple occasions.
