Dr. Toney Moses Rajan is an assistant professor at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, with an interdisciplinary academic and professional background spanning chemistry, materials science, intellectual property, and innovation management. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Münster, Germany; a postdoctoral qualification in Materials Science from the University of Amsterdam; and an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Laws, IT Laws, and Management from the University of Göttingen. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in intellectual property rights, international law, and legal studies.

Dr. Rajan has extensive research and industry experience in chemical and materials science, including nanomaterials, polymers, smart materials, geopolymers, coatings, corrosion protection, and pharmaceutical applications. His research career includes positions at Academia Sinica, Taiwan; the University of Münster; the University of Göttingen; and the National Council for Cement and Building Materials, DPIIT, Government of India.

In the field of intellectual property and innovation, Dr. Rajan has served as an intellectual property manager and patent specialist in Germany and India, working on patent drafting, invention assessment, patent searches, IP portfolio management, technology strategy, licensing, and commercialization. His experience includes working with trinamiX GmbH, a BASF subsidiary, and UnitedLex, where he contributed to global patent strategies and innovation development. He has over 14 international patents that are commercialized.

At St. Stephen’s College, Dr. Rajan teaches and mentors students in chemical and materials science while integrating intellectual property, technology transfer, innovation, and entrepreneurship into academic learning. His academic interests focus on connecting scientific research with real-world industrial applications and enabling students and researchers to translate innovative ideas into practical and market-ready solutions through applied sciences.
