St. Stephen's College is a religious foundation drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It aims at helping its members realise spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values.

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen's is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges.

Research Interests
Dr. Sonia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sanskrit at St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. She completed both her B.A. (Hons.) in Sanskrit and M.A. in Sanskrit from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, securing the top position in the University of Delhi in both programmes. She was awarded Gold Medals by the University of Delhi in recognition of her outstanding academic performance.

Her academic specialization is Indian Philosophy with a particular research focus on the Indian Debate System. She was awarded her Ph.D. by the University of Delhi for her research on Vādaśāstra as articulated in the Viśiṣṭādvaita tradition.

Before joining St. Stephen’s College, she served as an Assistant Professor under the Government of Haryana, where she was actively involved in teaching and mentoring students. During her tenure, she made dedicated efforts to develop and nurture students’ interest in Sanskrit and encouraged them to appreciate its linguistic, literary, philosophical, and cultural significance.

She is currently teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at St. Stephen’s College. Her teaching includes subjects such as Sanskrit Grammar, Indian Philosophy, Indian Social Institutions and other related areas of Sanskrit and Indian knowledge traditions.
