St. Stephen's College is a religious foundation drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It aims at helping its members realise spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values.

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen's is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges.

Biography

Dr. Jeena Sarah Jacob is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. She was awarded her PhD in History from the Centre for Historical Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and specialises in Medieval and Early Modern Indian History. During her PhD she was a Charles Wallace India Trust fellow and held a Junior Research Fellowship from the Indian Council for Historical Research. Her research interests include travel writing from India in the eighteenth century, Christianity in South India and the Political History of eighteenth century Kerala. Dr. Jacob has published articles on travel writing from both North and South India and political developments in Kerala in the eighteenth century in both edited books as well as peer reviewed journals.  She is currently working to expand her post doctoral research which she did at the Kerala Council for Historical Research.

Dr. Jacob enjoys visiting monuments and often conducts and supports walks to monuments in various parts of Delhi.
