Biography
Dr. Alia Zaman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. She holds a PhD. in Political Science from the University of Delhi and specializes in Political Theory, Indian Politics and International Relations.
Her doctoral research examined how diverse imaginings of community among Indian Muslims is transformed and constructed as a singular notion of ‘Indian Muslim’ community. As part of her M. Phil., she explored the relationship between Political Islam and modernity focusing on the evolving interactions between religious and political thought in contemporary societies.
Dr. Zaman teaches undergraduate courses in International Relations, Western Political Thought and Feminism. Her research interests include the intersections of gender, caste, identity politics and minority politics, with a particular focus on Muslim subjectivities in India and the politics of community formation.
She has published two research papers, including one in peer-reviewed journal. Dr. Zaman is an alumna of the Brown International Advanced Research Institutes (BIARI), Brown University, USA, and a Fellow of the Young South Asian Scholars Meet (YSASM). She continues to pursue research on questions of identity, political representation, and minority politics in contemporary India.
