St. Stephen’s College Organises Two-Day Symposium on “AI Meets Mathematics”
St. Stephen’s College organised a two-day symposium, “AI Meets Mathematics: From Mathematical Problems to Intelligent Solutions,” on 30–31 October 2026. The programme was organised by the Department of Mathematics and the Mathematics Society, in collaboration with the Computer Science Society, under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), with Principal Prof. Susan Elias as Chief Patron.
The symposium explored the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence and their applications across disciplines. Sessions covered optimisation, cryptography, public transportation, biomathematics, graph theory, financial data analysis and forecasting. A hands-on Python laboratory complemented the lectures, connecting mathematical concepts with computational applications.
The resource persons included Prof. T. V. Vijay Kumar (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Dr. Sweta Mishra (Shiv Nadar University), Prof. Pravesh Biyani (IIIT Delhi), Prof. Gautam Menon (Ashoka University), Dr. Shivani Dhiman (Bennett University), Prof. Sayan Ranu (IIT Delhi), Dr. Mohit Beniwal (Delhi Technological University) and Prof. Arindum Nayak (Jindal Global Law School). The programme also addressed responsible AI, emerging research directions and career opportunities.
The symposium was convened by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur and Dr. Aastha Madonna Sathe, with Dr. Greetta Pinheiro and Dr. Nimish Joseph as co-conveners, supported by the student organising teams of both societies.
The College thanks the speakers, faculty organisers and student volunteers for their contributions, and Principal Prof. Susan Elias for her support and encouragement of interdisciplinary academic engagement.
