Citation of Appreciation to Professor Shobhit Mahajan
The St. Stephen’s College Alumni Office is delighted to share that Professor Shobhit Mahajan (B.Sc. Honours Physics, Batch of 1977–1980) was presented with a Citation of Appreciation by the Principal, Professor Susan Elias, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to physics and science education, as well as his enduring association with the College as an outstanding student, teacher, and alumnus.
The citation was presented following Professor Mahajan’s Distinguished Lecture under the Summer Research and Innovation Programme (SRIP) 2026. It honoured his lifelong commitment to scholarship and scientific inquiry. Through his decades of teaching, research, and scientific writing, he has inspired generations of students and made significant contributions to science education in India.
A recipient of the President’s Gold Medal at St. Stephen’s College, Professor Mahajan went on to earn his M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley. He later returned to his alma mater and served as a member of its faculty.
While presenting the citation, Principal Susan Elias described Professor Mahajan’s remarkable journey as a reflection of the enduring values of St. Stephen’s College—excellence, integrity, humility, and service. She also acknowledged his lasting impact as a teacher, mentor, scholar, and valued member of the Stephanian community.
