St. Stephen's College is a religious foundation drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It aims at helping its members realise spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values.

Founded on 1 February 1881, St. Stephen's is the oldest college in Delhi. It was first affliated to Calcutta University, and later to Punjab University. Finally with the establishment of Delhi University in 1922, it became one of its three original constituent colleges.

Distinguished Stephanian Amitabh Kant  Conferred Sweden's Royal Order of the Polar Star

The Government of Sweden has conferred the Royal Order of the Polar Star (Knight First Class) upon distinguished St. Stephen's alumnus Amitabh Kant (B.A. Hons. Economics, Class of 1976), recognising his
outstanding contribution to strengthening India–Sweden relations

St. Stephen's College is delighted to congratulate distinguished alumnus Amitabh Kant (B.A. Hons. Economics, Class of 1976) on being conferred the Royal Order of the Polar Star (Knight First Class) by His Majesty the King of Sweden.

Mr. Kant was a student of St. Stephen's College from 1973 to 1976 and has remained closely connected with his alma mater over the years. Most recently, he returned to campus to deliver a lecture as part of the St. Stephen's Centre for Advanced Learning's Public Policy and International Relations Programme, reaffirming his commitment to inspiring future generations of Stephanians.

A 1980-batch IAS officer of the Kerala Cadre, Mr. Kant has had an exceptional career in public service. As CEO of NITI Aayog, India's G20 Sherpa, and through his leadership of Make in India, Startup India, and Incredible India, he has played a defining role in shaping India's economic growth and global engagement.

The College community takes immense pride in celebrating this distinguished international recognition bestowed upon one of its own. We extend our warmest congratulations to Mr. Kant and wish him continued success in his service to the nation and the global community
