Alumnus Prasenjit K. Basu Wins Inaugural R. C. Majumdar Prize
St. Stephen’s College congratulates its alumnus Prasenjit K. Basu (B.A. Honours Economics, 1986–89) on receiving the inaugural R. C. Majumdar Prize for Indian History for his book, India Reborn: The Epic Story of a Civilization’s Rebound from Two Centuries of Decline.
Published by BluOne Ink, the book examines India’s economic and civilisational journey, tracing its decline during the colonial period and its subsequent resurgence. It combines historical inquiry with economic analysis to present a broad account of India’s changing place in the world.
Prasenjit K. Basu received the award from Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman at the FIHCR Annual History Prizes ceremony held on 5 September 2026 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
