Informal Discussion Group

INFORMAL DISCUSSION GROUP

Informal Discussion Group was always known for its exciting conversations with visiting guests and riveting discussions within the student body. Shashi Tharoor thought of the group and made it sound like a thriving space for the students who just wanted to talk. It was a well known fact that everything said in the meeting would remain within the group. The late night meetings would add to the allure of the society and the assemblage of everyone in the staff room made it almost impossible for people to miss the informal discussions. This was the legacy of the Informal Discussion Group. And this is what we, the current members of the society, aspire to bring to life again.

After years of successful discussions and fun meetings, Informal Discussion Group went into a decline. Meetings were unfortunately irregular and the pandemic affected the society in a way that made it extremely hard to revive it again. Discussions held online just didn’t have the same kind of interaction and did not encourage a fraternity. That is why, as soon as college opened, Informal Discussion Group planned to reestablish itself to make it just as exciting as it was before and bring back the legacy that was. A meeting was organized with Asim Arun (an alumnus or stephanian who has established himself as a politician) after months of inaction. And Informal Discussion Group saw its first success. So many people walked into the event that there were no seats left vacant. In fact, some people even had to stand! It was definitely a victory and a legacy resparked and we, as a society, only hope to come closer to what it was before!
