The
Fine Arts Society

Yearbook Report 2009-2010
The
Fine Arts Society has had its share of obtuse fun this year. That we
saw little of art in the society should not be a disappointment, for
we saw even less of society members in the record-breaking number of
meetings that were held. The meetings were fascinating, nonetheless.
At one of these, a dog (the dogs were usually kept to sniff out
people in Main Corridor who knew anything about art and to drag them
to be inducted into the society) insisted on chewing the President’s
hand. On another occasion, the meeting mysteriously turned into a
Bong Lit. Soc. meeting; the non-Bong Lit. Soc. members exited into
oblivion quietly thereafter.
However, one should not assume
that we did no work at all. Even as the printed one-page notices
replaced our beautifully hand-crafted ones on the Today’s
Engagements Board, we did not lose hope. We displayed our artistic
talents within the confines of our own notice board. We also invited
artists to interact with the Junior Members for the very first time.
Visits to many exhibitions were organized and we thoroughly enjoyed
the ones at The Attic and Triveni Kala Sangam; admittedly because
they were followed by food (having to pay for it ourselves was
another issue). Despite coaxing the first years to run after their
moneyed uncles, our coffers lay empty till the SUS came to our
rescue and gave us a lump sum for our festival - Artipelago 2009-10.
Had the editor of this Yearbook been kind enough to stretch the
write-up deadline by a couple of weeks, we would have boasted of
that too.
Overall, the society came up
with many new ideas ‘to explore the alleys of creativity’ even as it
tottered on the threshold of virtual bankruptcy and witnessed the
vanishing acts of the first years. Hope the society sees better
financial conditions in the following years and betters the good
work. |
