Blood Donation Camp 2010
“Giving blood is a divine experience”, claimed a promotional poster.
Indeed, it can feel like one. Donating blood produces the
same dizzying lightheadedness, an above-the-clouds-feeling that a
spiritual experience can induce. It renders you temporarily
immobile, as the magnitude of what you have just done or experienced
puts things into perspective. And while you can do it once and feel
great about it, you are truly extraordinary if you can connect with
the divine (and donate blood) regularly. And we, at St Stephen’s,
look exactly for that kind of enlightenment.
If you heard a buzzing on the St Stephen’s campus on the 27th
of August, chances are that you were near the immensely busy,
meticulously efficient, mighty SSL crew organizing a Blood Donation
Camp, in collaboration with the Rotary Blood Bank. The SSL was
greatly commended for its efforts, which registered 430 over
enthusiastic people from across the university, of which 207 were
found prim to donate over almost 72 and a half litres of blood! A
mighty blood collection indeed!
Inaugurated at 10:00 AM by the Principal the Rev Dr. Valson Thampu,
the mammoth task was brought together by more than 100 volunteers
working night and day for the past two weeks under the guidance of
the Staff Adviser Dr. Jacob Cherian. The Spirit of Stephania –
“Service above Self” – was manifest in the day long activity, a
veritable celebration of life.
