Yearbook Report 2008-2009
This
year the society witnessed a huge change in all aspects of work that
it undertook, expanding its reach beyond college walls. Attending
Friday meetings at Miranda House and Saturday meetings at Lady Irwin
College, Mandi House became a regular affair. Thressy and Jyotsna
would have been proud martyrs to our cause that fateful Saturday but
damn them terrorists. They planted the bombs at Bharakhamba Road
instead!
Unlike previous years, Virasat-2008 was a three-day event, with
acclaimed artistes Teejan Bai and Kiran Segal performing their art
in our beautifully decorated college hall, along with the screening
of the Japanese warrior movie, Kagemusha on the first day.
Our team of enthusiastic second-years, led by a stressed-out Sneha
and Payaswini worked together to make this event a success. We made
posters for hours at a stretch, cleaned out the messy green room,
(thereby unearthing a brand-new mirror!), set up the college hall
with carpets ( a special thanks to Piyush, Paurush and Sukhvir’s
band of boys), decorated with buntings, diyas and flowers (kudos to
Hiba and her creative instincts!). Firmly set on bunking all
classes, we extensively publicized the event for days all over the
campus and managed to look well-groomed, sweet and courteous despite
the pressure. The hunt for sponsorship, spear-headed by the serene
Shagun, assisted by Simi, was full of heart-breaks and last-minute
ditches but in the end persuasion paid off, and Virasat was
organized within a mere budget of 40,000. Of course, our first-years
assisted with on-day work.
Never before has the society put in such team-work. Many of our
worthy members have gone unnamed but the word-limit is to be blamed.
Forgive us friends.
The year ends with the promise of a notice-board for the society to
call its own. One can only hope for better times next year.
