Mathematics Society

Yearbook Report 2009-2010

The Mathematics Society is amongst the oldest societies in our college. We are devoted to pursuing activities and events aimed at fostering interest and creative expression of mathematical ideas both in college and outside it.

  •       The academic year 2009-10 started with The Mathematics Society hosting a Freshers’ Welcome on 4th August 2009 for the first year mathematics junior members.

  •       Further, a trip to Mcleod Ganj and Dharamshala was organized from 13th-16th August 2009. About 60 keen junior members enjoyed this departmental vacation along with the Mathematics Society’s Staff Advisor Ms. Monika Bansal and two more teachers, namely Ms. Samridhi Mehta and Mrs. Sakshi Khanna.

  •       Integration 2009, the annual fest of the society was held over two days, i.e, 24th-25th September 2009. It was inaugurated by Dr. Anima Nagar, a professor at I.I.T. Delhi. The fest saw national level participation with students from colleges like I.I.T. Kanpur and St. Xavier's college (Mumbai) coming in. The fest hosted quiz, paper presentation and also a talk by Royal Sundaram on Actuarial Sciences as a career after mathematics. Amongst the fun mathematical games were crossword, sudoku, brainstorm, mathematical pictionary, treasure hunt and absurd theory. The movie ‘Pi’ was also screened for all enthusiasts.

  •       The annual journal ‘Mathematica 2009-10’ was also released during the fest. It included articles written by Prof. Siddhartha P. Chakrabarty (I.I.T. Guwahati), Prof. Amitabh Tripathi (I.I.T. Delhi), Prof. C. S. Lalitha (South Campus, D.U.) and Prof. T.N. Badri (T.A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal).
