The
Chemistry Society

Yearbook Report 2008-2009
Inspired by the King of Chemicals, H2S04,
the ‘Chemistry Soc’ bubbled with enthusiasm and vigor, and organized
a host of interesting activities this year.
The year began with the Junior and Senior members of college
getting a peep into the life of a great genius; the movie, ‘Einstein
Revealed’, screened in two parts, was a narrative that lucidly
portrayed how Albert Einstein was hit by those en-‘lightening’ ideas
and how he worked upon them despite all odds that he faced all
along.
It was then time for the Junior Members to get on to their
creative best as they designed and sketched logos for the Society in
the ‘Logo Designing Competition’. The best logo has been installed
as the Society’s Logo.
The next event was the Crossword Solving Contest, ‘Chemcross’
that made the students scratch their heads as they figured out
‘Which limonoid can both Steven Ley and Neem seeds synthesize?’
Keeping the thinking spirit on, ‘Chemo-Trivia’, the Chemistry Quiz
was next to follow. A brainstorming session of intriguing questions
and answers kept the teachers and students captivated. By this time,
the Chemists were well equipped to beat the Delhi chill.
The Annual intra-college Paper Presentation Competition was
next on the agenda. The students presented papers on many
interesting and appealing topics like ‘Pharmacogenetics’ and many
more.
The excitement and fervor was on as the annual educational
excursion was announced. This year, the senior and junior members
visited ‘Inter University Accelerator Centre’, formerly known as
‘Nuclear Science Centre’ where they learnt about the technique of
accelerating beams of ions which are then used for experiments in
Nuclear Science, Material Sciences, Mass Spectroscopy, etc. Walking
through the rooms having ‘radiation shielding’ walls, they also got
to see parts of the 50 m tall accelerator called ‘Pelletron’.
If you are still doubtful of the ‘accelerated motion’ of the
on goings of the Society this year, then come and witness the fears
and tears, the screams and dreams that glorify the Science Block, as
a group of chemists are intensely involved in their literary
experiment, ‘Oxygen’, the Annual Chemistry Society Journal.
A lot has gone, but a lot more is yet to come. As the Society
motto goes, lets Imbibe, Initiate. |
