CHESS TEAM


The St Stephen’s College Chess Team took part in the Inter College Competition organized by the University of Delhi. The following students took part in the same:

Chess Workshop

A Chess Workshop was organized in college from 24th August – 5th September, 2015 in the Sports Complex. There was a good response to the workshop. During the Workshop, practice sessions were conducted where interested students were introduced to various concepts of the game. After a week, all participants were made to play matches against each other. This was finally followed by the Trials for College Chess Team which were held in the form a league and the Top Five students were inducted to the college team.

Inter-College

Ashleesh Koganti, of I Mathematics, scored 6 points out of a total of 6, winning all his matches.

Nirbhay Nitya Nanda, of II B.A.(P), scored 5 points out of a total of 6.

Henry and Anubodh scored about 2.5 points on 6.

Loses: 2

Achievements

Nirbhay Nitya Nanda and Ashleesh Koganti are FIDE rated players with ratings of 1834 and 1797 respectively. Both players have participated in state, national and international chess tournaments.

The self-motivated and ceaseless activities of over two dozen clubs and societies constitute a very important part of College life and offer a large variety of avenues for self expression. For each subject there is a Society that sponsors extra-curricular lectures and discussion and, in general, tries to stimulate interest in the subject. There are many other academic and cultural society and clubs covering wide range of activities, such as debating, dramatics, mountaineering, film and music appreciation, social service, photography and electronics.
