At a
well-attended meeting held in the College Hall at 4 pm on 14 August,
2010, Dr. Quraishi, alumnus, was felicitated with great warmth and
rejoicing by Stephanians. The meeting began with prayer, welcome and
introductory remarks by Rt. Rev. Sunil Kumar Singh, Chairman of the
Governing Body and Supreme Council of the College who wished Dr.
Quraishi God’s blessings and guidance in steering the ship of Indian
democracy with distinction. Shri. Ved Marwah, President, Alumni
Executive, speaking on behalf of the alumni at large, paid rich
tributes to the person and character of Dr. Quraishi and
acknowledged the rare gift of the CEC to transform the given
situation into something positive and productive. Shri. Salman
Khurshid, speaking after Shri. Marwah, hailed Mr. Quraishi for his
many contributions to public life and his commendable track-record
in various sectors. Prof. Mohammad Amin, characteristically, took
the anecdotal route and reminisced some of the events pertaining to
Dr. Quraishi while he was in College. The Principal paid tributes to
the courageous commitment of Dr. Quraishi to his alma mater and
thanked him for standing by the College in the hour of its struggle
and peril.
Responding to the expressions of appreciation and affection from his
fellow Stephanians and his alma mater, Dr. Quraishi recalled his
years in College and acknowledged the role the College played in his
formation as a scholar and principled public servant. He
acknowledged, besides, the help and guidance that he received in the
wider arena of public life from distinguished Stephanians, making a
special mention in this regard of Shri. Ved Prakash Marwah. He
played glowing tributes to Dr. Amin, equating him with the College
itself.
The
Chairman presented a memento to Dr. Quraishi on the occasion.
Dr.
Clement Rajakumar, Vice Principal thanked the distinguished speakers
and the gathering for braving the inclement weather and assembling
in large numbers to make it a befitting felicitation for Dr.
Quraishi.
It
is surely a sign of Dr. Quraishi’s popularity in College and wider
acceptance he commands that the College Hall was full on a Saturday
afternoon, which happens but rarely.
In
his opening remarks, the Chairman made a special and appreciative
mention of the eagerness on the part of the alumni to stand by the
College as well as meet its manifold needs. He outlined the generous
contributions in cash and kind received from several alumni in the
recent weeks. He commended the Principal’s initiatives to all of
them for their support and facilitation.
